Copyright protection in the Middle Ages
Speaking of composing curses, Got Medieval has drawn our attention to the doubtless justified medieval habit of prefacing books with written curses targeting thieves. The effect may have been similar to the FBI warnings which nowadays introduce rented DVD’s, as for example:
