A Return to Intellectual Bondage

.
Sidney Meteyard: Hope Comforting Love in Bondage

Overcoming my profound discouragement at the early demise of summer vacation, I leapt forth like a gazelle and returned to classes at S.F. State, which felt somewhat like running into a brick wall after weeks of idle pursuit and self-indulgence.

The semester is barely ten days old, and in Hellenism course we are already up to our greaves and hoplites in Plutarch, Demosthenes, Isocrates, Xenophon and Plato. I’m also doing a Directed Studies (= tutorial) this semester relating to the Stuttgart Psalter, a marvelous collection of 300+ pictures illustrating the Book of Psalms and composed around 820-830 at the monastery of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris.
